Production Blog: Reviews on opening sequence: Buried

Image
I sent the video out to a couple of family members to get their reviews. Having them review the video would tell me what I could've did better. I just didn't want my mom and dad the only one's to see it. The problem with having my mom and dad review it is because I'm their child so I don't want them to sugarcoat anything. I know my siblings would be blunt and tell me if they liked it or if it was bad. Mom- My mom rated the opening sequence a 4 out 5. She stated that the words were distracting. She said that while watching the opening sequence, you have to stop every two seconds to read the words. Dad-  My dad rated it a 4.5 stars. He stated that he couldn't really see the screen. It's hard to read with the font. He said he understood what I was trying to do with the red but it was hard to read especially with someone with vision problems. For those who care about credits would get frustrated. He says that the weather and the time of the day played a major p

Production Blog: Editing and making changes

Image
EDITING I finished editing today. Some scenes I decided to cut. The editing was very time consuming. However, I took my time and made sure it was done to my liking. After it was to my liking, I added the final touches such as the titles and fonts. I then kept replaying to make sure every detail was aesthetically perfect. After editing, I then made the decision to critique my work. After the critiquing, I went back and fixed on any problems that were wrong. It was a very slow process but a fun one. I really enjoyed this project.  At the end, I played the video multiple times and made sure everything was in sync. CHANGES I ran over time; This is why I cut some scenes. I took out the burying scenes. I just tried to include the idea of her being buried. I also took out the boyfriend and the friends scene. I also took out the siren sound that was supposed to be at the end of the opening sequence. I originally had three actors, but I changed it to two actors. Jaila Dunbar was the actor tha

Production Blog: Editing

Image
After I finished recording, I immediately started editing. I decided to cut the editing process into two days. I have a ton of work to do so this will be the best for me; This better so I don't become overwhelmed. I've pushed back the editing dates multiple times; I had to wait to finish filming ALL of the scenes. I had finished the backyard scenes first because they were shot in my backyard. The backyard scenes were easier because I had all the tools I needed to shoot them. I couldn't finish all my scenes without my main actor, but we got it together.  I was debating which software I want to do. I also was debating if I wanted to edit on my phone or on the computer. It took me a while but I finally came to a decision. I decided that I'm going to use Clipchamps. Then I chose to begin editing off of my computer. I first started by editing the kidnapping scene. Then, I started editing the trunk scene. After, I then put in the scenes of him taking her out of the trunk and

Production Blog: Sunday Filming

Image
I fixed my mistake. I filmed in landscape instead of portrait. I re-filmed on Sunday and it wasn't bad. It was filled with people again. We had to re-do the same steps from the last time: We had to park. We had to wait for parking spots to become available. This time wasn't as long as the last time for parking spots to become available. This time we waited 10 minutes. I had to tell them to amp up the roughness again. I wanted this to look real. They did a great job acting. It honestly didn't take as long as expected to finish. We got there around 8:30. We left around 9:10. We made it back in time for me to prepare for school. I didn't expect us to, so that was great. I am immediately going to start editing. The deadline is weighing in and I want to have a completed movie; I want a professional looking movie.

Production Blog; Making a HUGE mistake

Image
Today I reviewed the footage. I made a huge mistake when recording. I realized that I recorded in portrait and not landscape. I'm highly upset. We spent a good amount of time trying to record the videos. I admit the mistake was on me. I should've been paying attention. I discussed with my actors and they agreed that we could record again on Sunday. I was surprised to see that they weren't upset that we had to record again; It seemed like they understood the circumstances. Since school is out for a couple more days, I will prepare the props and tools needed to record again.  I honestly didn't want to record on Sunday because I have school the next day. I don't want be recording around 8:30 p.m., when I have prepare for school. My actors have school as well, so it's not just me. However, sometimes sacrifices must be made. This time I will remember to record in landscape. This time I hope that we could create this to look nicer than the first time I recorded. I'
